As you may have noticed, gingham is one of this summers hottest trends. I always thought gingham referred to a pattern, but it turns out gingham is actually a textile- usually cotton or linen- that is woven giving it a striped/checkered look. Meaning when you turn it inside out it still looks the same. Nowadays it has more of a checkered look and is more commonly just a pattern, but I thought that was an interesting fact I would share with you!
I've always loved gingham- it's such a classic fabric that seems to make its way into fashion every year. It gives me a 50's/60's vibe and for some reason I always think of this scene in the original Parent Trap...
Anyone else? Nope just me? Ok.
This summer it appeared in fashion in so many different ways- shirts, shorts, scarves, shoes, swimsuits and more- and honestly I don't think you can really go wrong with gingham. I paired my OTS gingham top with a leather skirt, giving this preppy fabric an edgier feel. To complete the outfit, I wore a strappy block heel that's low enough it's easy to wear (I wore them for hours at a wedding). I paired my outfit with a black cross body with a gold chain. This would be the perfect outfit for a date night or a night on the town! You could make this top more casual, tucked into high waisted shorts paired with espadrille tennis shoes.
